To me, cars are emblematic of what's wrong with our society. Despite the fact that most people have cars, they are inherently elitist -- in a world of 6.5 billion people, only a minority can own cars. Everyone wants to be a equestrian, but so many horses (or cars) inevitably produce too much s**t.
Even in relatively enlightened SF, Prop E, the parking tax measure got voted down. There's clearly a lot of educating and mind-changing that needs to happen.

We should all just look at our own sense of entitlement to get an idea of how elitist car ownership is.
